Westlake Winter Youth Wrestling 2024-2025

Please look below at the different teams and information we have for the 2023-2024 Winter season. All questions can be directed to Jeff Newby at Jeffreynewby@hotmail.com

Cost for all teams

Cost for wrestlers that are within Westlake High School boundaries or for those that will attend Westlake High School (on your honor system) is $160 for the season (Nov. 4-Jan. 24). For those competing at Youth Super State we will practice through February 6th.

The cost for those wrestlers that are outside of Westlake High School boundaries or those that will not attend Westlake High School is $225  for the season (Nov. 4-Jan. 24) or through February 6th if you compete at Super State.


Practice Location

All practices will take place in the Westlake High School wrestling room (enter the northeast doors at the High School and go downstairs).

Fundraising

For fundraising options please contact Jonathan Leavitt at 801-414-2970 or email at starvingstudentcard@outlook.com. Fundraising can be used for team fees, tournaments, gear etc.

Season length

All practices will start November 4, 2024

Practices will go through January 24, 2025. For those registered for Youth Super State practices will continue through February 6th, 2025.

Parent's meeting

We will have a parents meeting for all groups on Monday, October 28th, 2024 in the Westlake High School Wrestling room at 7:00pm. 

USA Card

All wrestlers must have a USA Card. If you are going to compete in the spring season you need to purchase the Full Athlete Membership, otherwise you can just purchase the Limited Athlete Membership. You can always purchase the Limited Athlete Membership and then upgrade later to the Full Athlete Membership. You can purchase this card at www.usawmembership.com (there is a video on the home page of www.wlwrestling.com that explains how to do this if needed). This card is needed for practice and tournaments. This is an insurance card that covers the school, coaches and athletes.

  • December 7th: Thunder Classic @ Westlake HS
  • December 21st: Legacy Duals @ Zions Bank RSL Training Facility
  • January 3rd: Salem Hills Elementary Duals @ Salem Hills HS
  • January 4th: Utah Club Dual State @ Legacy Events Center
  • January 10-11: Beehive Brawl @ Sevier Valley Center
  • February 7-8: Youth Super State @ Legacy Events Center

Junior High Gold Team

Coaches: ???

To be on this team you must meet the following criteria or be in 7th or 8th grade:

1. YOU MUST PURCHASE THE TEAM SINGLET AND TEAM WARM UPS. This is not optional and to be on this team you must purchase these items and commit to wear them at certain select events.

2. Commit to and participate in the 2025 Youth Super State (Feb. 7-8 in Nephi, UT).

3. Members of this team are expected to compete at tournaments regularly (2x or more per month).

Middle School Gold Team

Coaches: Jeff Newby

To be on this team you must meet the following criteria:

1. YOU MUST TEST INTO THIS TEAM. If you want to be on this team Coach Newby will send out the items to know for testing. Date for the testing will be sent to all that want to test. 

2. YOU MUST PURCHASE THE TEAM SINGLET AND TEAM WARM UPS. This is not optional and to be on this team you must purchase these items and commit to wear them at certain select events.

3. Commit to and participate in the 2025 Youth Super State (Feb. 7-8 in Nephi, UT).

4. Members of this team are expected to compete at tournaments regularly (3x or more per month). If you are not competing at tournaments you should not be on this team.

Practice times for the Middle School Gold Team

Parent's Meeting

  • Parents meeting for the Middle School Gold Team will be on Tuesday, November 5th at the end of  practice (last 15 minutes of practice). We need all parents to attend this meeting to PLEASE plan to attend.

Elementary Gold Team

Coaches: Ikeru Abe

To be on this team you must meet the following criteria:

1. YOU MUST TEST INTO THIS TEAM. If you want to be on this team Coach Newby will send out the items to know for testing. Date for the testing will be sent to all that want to test. 

2. YOU MUST PURCHASE THE TEAM SINGLET AND TEAM WARM UPS. This is not optional and to be on this team you must purchase these items and commit to wear them at certain select events.

3. Commit to and participate in the 2025 Youth Super State (Feb. 7-8 in Nephi, UT).

Thunder Blue (Prek-2nd grade)

Practice times for the Thunder Blue Team

Price: $130 - This covers you for the full 3 months. 

This team requires parent involvement to help the kids. We require 1 parent per two kids in the practice to help. 

Parent's Meeting

Parents meeting for the Thunder Blue Team will be on Monday, October 28th at 7:00pm. We need all parents to attend this meeting so PLEASE plan to attend.

All Girls Team (2nd-8th grade)

All girls 2nd-8th grade should be registering under this team unless there is prior approval to register for a different team. 

Coaches: ???

We strongly encourage you to plan to participate in the below State Tournament. 

1. The 2025 Youth Super State (Feb. 7-8).
